【読書記録】『投資で一番大切な20の教え』著・ハワード・マークス
本書は、世界一の投資家ウォーレン・バフェットが「極めて稀にみる、実益のある本」と評し、自身が率いるバークシャー・ハザウェイの株主総会で配布したという、まさに投資家のバイブルと呼ぶべき一冊です。
著者のハワード・マークス氏は、世界最大級の投資運用会社「オークツリー・キャピタル・マネジメント」の共同創業者。その卓越した投資哲学とリスク管理の手腕から、同社はリーマン・ショック時に「最も稼いだ運用会社」としても知られています。
投資歴5年程度の私にとっては、正直、難解な部分も少なくありませんでした。しかし本書を通して痛感したのは、やはり「リスクコントロール」と「損失回避」こそが投資の核心であるということです。
特に印象的だったのが、次の言葉です（少し要約してあります）。
「市場の成長と同じ速度で資産を増やしている人は、優れた投資家とは言えない。」
つまり、私たちが何もせずとも市場全体は成長を続けます。
例えば、米国株式が年平均5％で上昇しているとき、資産も同じく5％増えたからといって「優秀」とは言えないのです。
インフレが進めば物価上昇によって実質的な資産価値は目減りします。真のリスクコントロールとは、リスクを抑えながらも市場平均を上回るリターンを狙う、その絶妙なバランス感覚にこそあります。
本書が教えてくれるのは、単なるテクニックや投資手法ではありません。
